A group exhibition focusing on the iconography of the screen star and the Hollywood myth.

Mark Dean (UK) – Goin’ Back (The Birds / The Byrds x 32 + 1) (1997, 9 min) – Tippi Hedren wakes to relive the horror of being attacked by the birds in Hitchcock’s classic film. Choreographed to accompany 32 bars of music from The Byrds’ song, Goin’ Back.

Christoph Girardet and Matthias Müller (Germany) – Kristall (2006, 15 min) – A melodrama composed of appropriated footage of mirrors from Hollywood films, reflecting the lives of star-crossed lovers. Courtesy: Timothy Taylor Gallery and the artists

Isabell Heimerdinger (Germany) – Make-up (2007, 12 min) – Portrait of a young actress removing her make-up; cinematic illusion disappears and naked life is again reflected in the mirror. Courtesy: Krobath Wimmer, Vienna.

Tracey Moffatt and Gary Hillberg (Australia/USA) – Lip (1999, 10 min) – A rapid montage of scenes from Hollywood films from the 1930s to the present day showing black servants talking back to their ‘bosses’.

Andy Warhol (USA) – Screen Tests (1964-66, 40 min) – Visitors to Warhol’s Factory with potential star quality, including Lou Reed and Jonas Mekas, are filmed in front of the camera. Courtesy: The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
